Perhaps the favourite of most bohemian-underground-intellectual young residents in Cluj, and among the oldest places of the like. It was interesting to notice that they didn’t make any kind of advertising when they opened it many years ago, yet the place became quickly popular only through word of mouth. They’re known for their habit of making changes, once a month, in the overall design of the place — either minor or major changes.
Last year, there were huge pink sheeps painted on the walls. A few months later, a pig turned up on the back of every one of the sheeps, suggesting some inter-species sexual contact. That image of a-sheep-and-a-pig became some kind of a logo, which one could see even on the waiters’ t-shirts.
You can sometimes hear live music at Insomnia.
They used to serve (yum!) pita-cu-zacusca (a popular mix of home-made vegs and spices spread on bread slices) and pita-cu-untura (allright, this might not be your fave choice: It’s pork fat spread on bread, topped with paprika, salt, and raw onion). Nowadays, they seem to have some organic food, which I didn’t arrive to try.
Well, no, I’m not at Insomnia right now as I’m writing this. I’m round the corner at Zorki’s. But I’ll go on with this list of places a bit later
Here’s my (incomplete) list of nice pubs & restaurants in Cluj
